what is that?

The picture on the home page is an aerial shot of Geneva, Switzerland with Lake Geneva in the middle ground, the Swiss Alps in the background, and the Geneva Airport in the foreground. The yellow circle traces out the Large Hadron Collider accelerator tunnel which is 300 feet underground passing out of France on the right, into Switzerland in the middle and then going back into France on the left (the border is the hashed white line). The CERN laboratory is at about 2 o’clock where the border crosses the yellow line (yes, half of the lab is in each country). Much of this course will center on the work that is to come from this laboratory.
